For most EAGA Choir members cycling is their way of life and sole source of transport. EAGA cyclists make a considerable contribution to preserving the environment of Leicester and promoting a healthy way of life. So it was only fitting that they were invited to participate in Sky Ride 2009 and have been invited again to the 2010 event. The primary aim of Sky Ride is to promote cycling throughout the country.

Sky Ride 2010 began as the EAGA Choir set off from their home territory of Saffron Lane, en-route to the first Sky Ride rendezvous, situated by the fountains in the grounds of the town hall in the city centre. The Choir sang songs such as ‘Oh happy’ day on their way to the meeting point, drawing hoots from the horns of passing vehicles and sporadic cheers from pedestrians. The weather was a mixed affair and for a period just after leaving the town centre the riders were drenched by a heavy down pour. However the spirit of these tenacious EAGA cyclists was not dampened and this seemed to inspire the other riders. When they eventually arrived at the second meeting point the powerful songs of the Choir seem to have driven away the dark clouds as traces of sunshine began to pierce the sky.

The multitude of riders then headed towards the final stop at Abbey Park, where there was a live radio broadcast on stage with live bands, various stalls and entertainment. Abbey Park on this day had been transformed into a bike city with a large footfall considering the unstable weather. However it seems the Choir had brought the sun with them and the weather became sunny and warm.

Some of the children from the EAGA children’s choir took part in the radio station’s competition on stage, and one of the EAGA children was declared the winner. The choir was introduced on the stage by the radio presenter and ministered a few songs to the delight of the crowd. EAGA had once again made an impact at Sky ride 2010.
