Report: The Hallelujah Chorus, BBC Radio 3 Project, 2009

In November 2009 EAGA took part in an event in aid of BBC Children in Need. BBC Radio Leicester was set the challenge of raising the biggest choir in Leicestershire to sing the ‘Hallelujah’ chorus from Handel's musical masterpiece. The event helped to raise £550 for BBC Children In Need and the EAGA Choir made a massive impact at the event which was aired live on BBC Radio Leicester. Members of the EAGA choir were also interviewed by BBC Children In Need and this was aired on national T.V. The following e-mail thanking the Choir was sent to EAGA committee member Pastor Samuel Gapara from BBC Radio Leicester;
"
Hello Samuel

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for turning up and being part of our “Sing Hallelujah” get together last Friday in the Cathedral. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Certainly from the pictures of peoples’ faces it seems like everyone was having fun!

It was great to have you and members of the choir with us – you really helped add to the occasion. It was so good to have that many people turn up of all ages and cultures and I thought the final result was absolutely stunning. It was good to see part of it again on TV in the evening during the East Midlands today news. It can also be heard by going to the BBC Leicester website and clicking on "Sing Hallelujah" there.

You’ll be glad to know as well, I’m sure, that the collection at the end raised over £550 for Children in Need – so a really worthwhile day all round.

So please pass on our thanks to all your members

With very best wishes (on behalf of BBC Radio Leicester)"
